Never Too Far Gone
May 10, 2023 by Brent McCoy
Here's something that you might not know about me. I was hired by The House FM 3 different times.
The first was back in the 1900s. I was fresh outta college and looking for a gig. I was hired to do the night show, known back then as "The Request Hour". It was a crazy show with lots of guest co-hosts, and some of the most fun ever. I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do it.
The second time was in early 2002. I had left the radio station to take a full time church ministry job. After about a year and a half, it was clear that it was not working out. I was rehired and eventually took over as morning show host, along with the lovely, talented, and slightly crazy Janelle Keith. Again, so much fun, I couldn't believe we were paid to do that show.
In 2012, I left the station to go back into full-time student ministry. That's the job that God had called me to. After doing this alone for a year or so, the station rehired me...yes...a third time...as a part-time weekend DJ. It's still a super-fun gig, and you can hear me on the weekends on The House FM.
I'm thankful for second chances. We serve a God of second (and third, and fourth, and fiftieth) chances. In Luke 22, Peter denies even knowing Jesus, after he told Jesus he would die for Him, if need be. It would seem that a denial like that would 'cancel' Peter in the eyes of Jesus...but that's not who He is.
After the resurrection, Jesus gave Peter an awesome responsibility to care for His people, and Peter understood the assignment. He had been restored.
You and I are never too far gone for God to redeem and use for His purposes.
Are we up to the challenge?
