Jesus is Still Calming the Storm
December 8, 2020 by Kevin Brooks
I was thinking about how much this year has been like that day in the boat, when the storm came in, and Jesus’ disciples were freakin’ out, but Jesus was asleep.  And I always picture Jesus asleep (on his side, ‘cause that’s how I sleep!) with that contented, ‘Oh, this nap feels so good’ –look on His face.  And the disciples being just incredulous that anyone could sleep in a storm like this…(I imagine there was some little disagreement about who was going to be the one to wake Him up!)  And a disciple woke him by saying, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Anyway, you remember the story… They woke Him up and Jesus, probably took a second to look at the storm, maybe he took a big stretch, then looked out over the waves, and said, “peace, be still’. Lifechurch pastor, Craig Groeschel says, “Peace begins in the mind.”  He quoted Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in the Lord, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”  Pastor Groeschel reminds us that, "peace isn't found in the absence of problems.  True peace is found in the presence of God." It’s difficult, in 2020, not to worry.  It was difficult in that boat, not to worry!  I think the disciples may have felt a little silly, though, afterwards… “we were afraid, when we had a dude in the boat who could do THAT???” Even in this screwy year, Jesus can still give us peace… because He IS peace.
