CALLING
March 16, 2022 by Corey Mann

My daughter and her husband waited until the last minute to accept her first teaching offer at a private Christian school.  By last minute, I mean 11:59pm on Friday night – last minute.

I’m so proud of her.  She graduated high school and didn’t really know what she wanted to do.  She graduated college with a degree, but still didn’t really feel called to anything.

Then the pandemic gave her some time at home to think about some things.  She asked herself 3 questions…

  1. What am I passionate about?
  2. What gift(s) have God given me?
  3. Where do I have the greatest opportunity to love others?

There it was, right in front of her.  She is passionate about young people.  She was a student leader in youth group, church camp, mission trips, and helped coach volleyball.

Her gifting was a love for language, and literature.  How about loving others?  How about a classroom full of kids?  So, she took a ‘transition to teaching’ course and as I write this, Chloe is finishing up her student teaching, with her first job as a 6th grade English/literature teacher in the fall.

Figuring out your ‘calling’ can be a challenge, but consider using those 3 questions and seeking God’s wisdom to help you maneuver your future. Now, I have to have a conversation with my daughter about not waiting until the very last minute to make a decision.
