The Solution to the Snarkies
October 5, 2022 by zzz_Lyn Smith
Are you ever surprised by something mean that comes out of your mouth? Or by a snarky
feeling that makes you want to snap at someone? Does it make you wonder, “What’s wrong
with me?”
Unfortunately, I’m very familiar with that feeling. Fortunately, I’ve learned where it comes
from so I know what the solution is.
While on a non-stop, every-minute-packed, sharing-a-hotel-room work trip, I didn't get my
morning journaling prayer times done. Oh, how I missed them! Short prayers on the fly are
good, no doubt, but long, quiet moments of focus on Jesus can't be beat. They're what keep
me stable, sane, and firing on all spiritual cylinders. There's no telling what will come out of
my mouth when I haven't had enough time with Jesus! He's my filter. When I’m surrendered
to the Holy Spirit in me, He taps me on the heart when I’m about to do something I’ll regret.
So when the snarkies are lurking on the edges of my brain, I realize I haven’t had enough
time with Jesus. The solution is basking in His presence. Alone. Listening to Him. Taking
time to process. Time to refill. If you don't do that every day, friends, I don't know what to tell
you except that you're missing out! He is the SWEETEST. He's the honey that drips into
every situation, every conversation, every thought. My bottom line is - I won't do life without
Him. He is the Lover of my soul and I love Him back in ways too deep for words.
Do you feel irritable? Are you short-tempered? Do you have the snarkies?
Let me ask you, friend. How much time alone did you spend with Jesus today?
Grab your Bible and a prayer journal and do it! It’s worth every minute.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!”
Psalm 34:8 NLT
