Known

How are you known? When people spend time around you, what is their takeaway? I think about this question a lot. I have a friend, Tim, who is a great listener. Any time we talk, I am amazed at how quickly the time seems to go by. I am also amazed by how I feel once our conversation is over. He asks questions about my job, family, and spiritual health. If I am not careful, I will spend the entire time talking about myself. In these later years, I have tried to be cognizant of asking questions myself, so that I will spend time listening too. When we do this, we are showing love to those in our lives. Sometimes, it is as simple as listening. Other times, of course, showing love to others may be more involved. Regardless, as Christians, we need to be known as people who love.

1 John 4:10-11 says this, “This is real love - not that we loved God, but that he loves us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loves us that much, we surely ought to love each other.”

We love because God loved us.
