What are your 10 things?

You know those weeks where you just can’t help but feel stuck? Those weeks where it
feels as though the entire world is out to get you? Yeah, we’ve all been there and unfortunately,
that was me this past week. It started with a bug. Yes, a bug, and it just kind of created this
snowball effect. I suddenly became super unmotivated and didn’t really feel like doing anything,
not even the work that I love. I was ignoring calls, barely making deadlines, and I honestly didn’t
even wash my hair for a few days (Okay almost a week, but hey dry shampoo, right?). Then my
mom called me, and she asked what was wrong. Let’s be honest with each other, whenever our
parents (especially our moms) ask us what’s wrong, it’s a lot harder to hide it. So, I began going
down this whole list, and she was quiet for a couple of seconds and then said, “You’re allowed to
feel those things, but I feel like you are being really negative about everything, and that’s just not
who you are.” I stopped instantly. She was right, I was so busy looking at everything that was
wrong with my life, that I forgot my problems are so insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Then she asked me for a favor, and I responded, "of course what is it?" She proceeds to ask me,
before I go to bed, to think of 10 things that I am grateful for and do the same thing when I wake
up in the morning. At first, I thought 10 things?? That seems like a lot but, okay. After we got off
the phone and I got ready for bed, I did what she asked, the first couple things were a little difficult, but
as I got going, it became easier. Then, I did the same thing when I woke up. It really did help
change my mindset. Sometimes we need to have those conversations that stop us and allow us to
realize that the things that we are going through at this moment, truly are not the end of the world.
So, I challenge you, to do the same thing. Before you go to bed, and when you wake up, think of
10 things you are grateful for. Maybe you want to form it as a prayer, maybe you just list them
out loud. This tiny step could help you create a new routine and allow you to start your days a
little bit brighter. I can say it definitely got me out of my rut, so what are you waiting for? What
are your 10 things?
