Friends University Singing Quakers present Be Not Afraid
March 28, 2021 - March 29, 2021
Friends University's Singing Quakers will present their annual Home Concert March 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and March 28 at 2 p.m.
The spring concert, themed Be Not Afraid: Songs of Faith, Hope, and Love, is a reminder of the support we have in coming together. The songs are sure to comfort those in need and encourage the spirit.
Dr. Cecil J. Riney, founder and director of the Singing Quakers for 45 years, said, I am thrilled to have a young conductor as talented and genuine as Dr. Rayvon T. J. Moore leading the Singing Quakers. I urge the Wichita community to join me in supporting this first live concert of the Singing Quakers under his leadership.
The concert features a world premiere by composer Gwyneth Walker, entitled Equality is in the Air We Breathe. In the piece, Walker masterfully sets the poetry of Langston Hughes to music.
In the theme of encouragement and hope, both livestream and limited in-person tickets will be completely free at FriendsU.eventbrite.com.
The in-person performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Covid safety protocols can be found here. Please bring a face mask and be ready to sit in socially distanced pods.
