Friends University Singing Quakers present Be Not Afraid Friends University - Riney Fine Arts Center 2100 W. University Ave. Wichita KS 67213 Friends University's Singing Quakers will present their annual Home Concert March 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and March 28 at 2 p.m. The spring concert, themed Be Not Afraid: Songs of Faith, Hope, and Love, is a reminder of the support we have in coming together. The songs are sure to comfort those in need and encourage the spirit. Dr. Cecil J. Riney, founder and director of the Singing Quakers for 45 years, said, I am thrilled to have a young conductor as talented and genuine as Dr. Rayvon T. J. Moore leading the Singing Quakers. I urge the Wichita community to join me in supporting this first live concert of the Singing Quakers under his leadership. The concert features a world premiere by composer Gwyneth Walker, entitled Equality is in the Air We Breathe. In the piece, Walker masterfully sets the poetry of Langston Hughes to music. In the theme of encouragement and hope, both livestream and limited in-person tickets will be completely free at FriendsU.eventbrite.com. The in-person performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Disney favorites, pop standards and Broadway tunes from around the world will feature shows ranging from Les Mis, Bye Bye Birdie, and Curtains to Frozen, The Wiz, and much more. Moving ballads, up-tempo dance numbers, orchestra and a full chorus make this a hit for the whole family. The performances will run Friday and Saturday, April 23-24, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave Wichita KS 67213 Carrying on the tradition, Friends University Concert Choir members will share their talent Sunday, April 25, at 7 p.m.. The show, which like many events was canceled last year, is a tradition beloved by the community. We are so excited to put on this fun event once again. It's a highlight of the year for our choir and always gets their creative juices flowing, said Concert Choir director, Rolaine Hetherington. An entertaining compilation of talents will be showcased. Past shows have included singing, dancing, juggling and even puppets. The concert is free and no tickets are required. The movement is celebrated for its efforts in promoting peace, facilitating dialog around tough subjects, fighting for human rights and pushing for equality. We are honored to participate in International Jazz Day with a celebration concert featuring all of the jazz ensembles at Friends University.
